'My Railway Journey'

An illustrated talk by John Wilson on his journey from a young spotter and how he became a railway employee with the assistance of many images with the stories to go along with them.

'The 8D Annual General Meeting'

The AGM of the association with the business taking place first followed by what now has become the annual railway quiz. This year Chris Hollins has put the quiz together. After the quiz there will be a buffet lunch and time to socialise. The annual £12.00 subscriptions will also be collected at the AGM.

'First Rescue from Barry Island'

In 1968, 8D member John Atherton was part of the team that rescued 4F No 43924, the first departure from Woodham's scrapyard. He presents an illustrated talk describing that achievement and the subsequent restoration of the locomotive on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

'St Helens Central Station'

An illustrated talk by former 8D Chairman, Joe Cowley. During a stint as a volunteer at St Helens Library, Joe came across a selection of photographs that were taken at the opening ceremony of the GCR St Helens Central station in 1900. The discovery of the photos has led to Joe putting together an illustrated talk about the station focusing on the year of the opening.

'The Wirral Railway Company'

The first outdoor meeting of the year and Paul Wright will lead with a guided tour from were the Mersey Railway tour finished off. If you did not attend the Mersey Railway tour, don't worry about that as Pao will fill in any missing gaps in your knowledge. The surviving lines of the former Wirral Railway (Birkenhead Park to West Kirby and New Brighton) will be explored by train and some of the closed sections will be explored on foot through short walks from stations. The tour will start at Birkenhead Park and conclude at New Brighton where members wanting to take refreshment can do so.

Meet at Birkenhead Park station (platform) at 10.00hrs.


Meetings (except AGM) are open to non-members too.
